Woods, who would finish 7-over par and six shots

Woods, who would finish 7-over par and six shots off the winning score, immediately played himself out of contention, playing bogey golf early on. He was 6-over par on his first six holes and 10-over for the tournament, 11 shots out of the lead.

Meanwhile, up ahead of Woods playing the back nine was Mickelson, who never got it going all week — a week that began with Mickelson losing a ball on his first tee shot Thursday. That ended being a foreshadowing of things to come for his week.

"It was a challenging test,'' Mickelson said. "I didn't play well. If you played anything less than perfect golf it was extremely penalizing … and I played far from perfect.''
